The People’s Potato, a not-for-profit soup kitchen, is looking for a full time collective member.

Remuneration: $15.91 per hour for 30-35 hours per week.‍

About the Organization & Environment

The primary activity of the People’s Potato is to serve daily vegan meals to approximately 400 students and community members at Concordia University. Some other activities include a bi-weekly food bank, monthly workshops related to food and food politics, and a summer garden.The People’s Potato is an anti-capitalist worker-run organization and applicants must be willing to work within a collective structure. The People’s Potato is a working environment in which employees both guide and execute the vision of the organization.‍

Job Responsibilities

The individual hired must be willing to cook, clean, and do some occasional heavy lifting. The individual will also be required to participate in collective meetings, and other committee work such as organizing workshops, responding to emails, coordinating volunteers, etc, to be decided following the hiring procedure.

Requirements

  • Strong French speaking and writing skills
  • An aptitude for applying new skills
  • Interest or involvement in social justice causes
  • Ability to work closely with others
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated/self-directed

Assets

  • Valid driver’s license
  • An aptitude for cooking (small and large scale)
  • Experience with vegan and/or vegetarian cooking
  • Knowledge of consensus-based decision making processes
  • Basic computer skills
