Emergency food baskets

The Emergency Food Basket service exists to supplement our daily servings of by-donation vegan lunches. As with our regular servings, the goal of this project is to make food more accessible to students and community members as the cost of living continues to rise.

  • Regular School Year: Food baskets are offered twice monthly in the People's Potato kitchen.
  • Exam Periods: The frequency of the service is increased.
  • Summer Term: For the first time this year, this service will be available in the summer!

Who Can Access This Service?

The service is open to everyone, and there is no registration necessary.

Once a week, collective members of the People's Potato pick up donations from Moisson Montréal (the island's largest food bank provider).

  • What the baskets contain: A mix of items like canned and prepared foods, bread, milk, cereal, etc.
  • Dietary Note: The food donated by Moisson Montréal contains meat and dairy products. The People's Potato does not endorse the corporations which produce these foods.
  • Our Additions: We also purchase fresh produce, dried beans, and grains to increase both the quantity and quality of food available.

We at the Potato strive to organize this food assistance service in the most accessible, respectful, and efficient way possible. We are always open to suggestions regarding how to do this better!

What to Bring & What to Expect
  • Bring Your Own Bags: Everyone must bring their own bags, as we are unable to provide them.
  • No ID Required: In our desire to remain accessible to as many people as possible—regardless of income or immigration status—we will never ask service users for any form of identification.

⚠️ Important Note: Spots are limited, so it is first-come, first-served! Although the distribution of food bags begins at the times indicated on the poster, please keep in mind that a long line typically forms beforehand.
